Gạo nếp cho ra rổ, rửa sạch và ngâm trong nước lạnh 15 phút. Việc ngâm gạo nếp sẽ giúp hạt nếp không bị bể trong quá trình nấu xôi, hạt nếp căng bóng nhìn đẹp mắt.
Cho gạo nếp đã ngâm vào nồi cơm điện, cho phần đậu đã luộc lên và trộn đều. Nấu một nồi nước sôi và đổ nước sôi vào phần gạo nếp đã trộn cùng đậu. Cho nước xâm xấp mặt nếp (0.3 - 0.5 cm). Bật nút nấu chín như nấu cơm.
Giã nhuyễn muối 1 muỗng cà phê muối hột. Mè rang với lửa nhỏ vừa. Khi mè chuyển sang màu vàng thì cho muối đã giã vào, rang đến khi hạt muối khô và mịn là được.
Xôi sau khi nấu cho ra dĩa. Rắc lên ít muối mè hoặc ăn cùng nước cốt dừa là có thể dùng.
